What kind of thread do you use on a sewing machine?

I am sewing a top....

It depends on the material. I usually use cotton because the fabrics I use are cotton. But when I sew on jeans I use a harder thread made for jeans or polyester thread.

All-Purpose thread is probably the best way to go.
